ora-click: it died

Ora-click.com, the new Oracle social bookmarking site, which launched a few weeks ago is virtually dead. There is absolutely no activity and the top user is a spammer (second in the list is me, how ironic). I really liked this idea, since I’m a news junky and I was hoping to get my daily dose there. Besides mentioning the launch, there has been no attention from the blogosphere, or news sites, and the community isn’t growing either. Perhaps the community isn’t very active, the ones who are, have a weblog and are aggregated through OraNA.info, I guess.

I think the main reason is (again) OraNA. All the articles there are automatically submitted. So all the information we allready have, is now also available through ora-click.com. I think that was a mistake. Nobody has the urge to post anything now. You might find that a good thing, but I think the absence of any pre-integrated post will persuade people to upload their ‘own’ news. And no, I don’t think there will be an overlap of 80-90% with OraNA, there’s lots of other news out there, which doesn’t come from weblogs.

But why not have a few well known people from the community submit their stories for a while (and perhaps give up blogging during that period). These people attract a crowd and will make the community grow faster. We’ll see what they find interesting and we will vote for the articles, news items and stories if we find them worthwile. We might even submit our own! ;-)

So, Matt, if you’re reading this, make some calls and get rid of the OraNA stuff!

    Klass,
I apprecaite the feedback, but to be honest, I think one of the reasons for the slow start is that it’s January. No one is posting anything good lately. There, I said it, the blogs have been boring in 08 so far. I’m going to write up a bigger post on this tonight when I get home, so watch for the trackback. In the meantime check out the latest submitted story ;-) .

    Matt,

We’ll see ;-) , I think your project fills a void (as Jake described it), it’s definitely a possible source for my daily dose. I’ll be visiting frequently to see if things become more lively.
